In preparing to make this series of work I set about collecting junk mail from my own and my parents letterboxes for almost a year. Each piece of junk mail was folded and dipped carefully in a liquid porcelain slip, then layered on top of one another in stacks ready for firing. The porcelain slip absorbs into the paper, and during the firing burns out, leaving behind a fine porcelain skin from each sheet.
The work makes reference to middens of waste built up as sediments in the land leaving a trace for future generations to study, I looked at images from Pompeii too and thought modern lifestyle, about excess, hoarding, and needs versus wants. I encased the works in museological vitrines both for practicality and to enrich their ironic sense of preserved status.
